For his FUSION CAST GLASS, Barney has made molds for casting glass by welding stainless steel and lining them with a ceramic fibre material. He uses the same crushed glass from the fused and stained glasswork. He lays the colors in cold, then brings up the temperature. Castings can be up to 4" thick and stay in the kiln for up to a week to anneal properly (relieve stresses). There are times where more glass has to be added while hot. These sculptures combine his metal working techniques and his fusion cast glass.
