Zeitz uses all hand forged and welding techniques in his metal sculpture. There is no casting involved. Everything is cut from sheets or bars and hammered hot or cold, then welded with either gas or electric welders. Material is added using a combination of Mig and Tig welding to build up and flow out the metal. He uses hand tools for grinding and polishing. This is very direct approach and shows in the variation of color and grinding and polishing where every design decision is made by the artist.

Zeitz uses all hand forged and direct welding techniques in his metal sculpture. There is no casting involved. Everything is cut from sheets or bars and hammered hot or cold, then welded with either gas or electric welders. He uses hand tools for grinding and polishing.  His favorite material is stainless steel, which he has worked the technique over the years to get amazing results. Stainless steel is a very hard material, but Zeitz has figured out a way, with patience, to get the results he wants. Stainless steel is very durable and has excellent luminescent qualities. It glows in low light situations, like dawn and dusk, making the work more noticeable than bronze at certain times of day.

Fusion Cast Glass Sculpture

Fusion Cast Glass Sculpture For his FUSION CAST GLASS, Barney has made molds for casting glass by welding stainless steel and lining them with a ceramic fibre material. He uses the same crushed glass from the fused and stained glasswork. He lays the colors in cold, then brings up the temperature. Castings can be up to 4" thick and stay in the kiln for up to a week to anneal properly (relieve stresses). There are times where more glass has to be added while hot. These sculptures combine his metal working techniques and his fusion cast glass.
